How to apply to be a member of Rukun Tetangga?
To be a member of the Rukun Tetangga (RT), all you need to do is to fulfill the requirements. This is where you need to be aware if there are any available RTs in your area and which residential area falls under which RT centre.
In most cases, there is one RT centre which operates within every residential area which means that there could be several RTs operating within 1 particular district. For example, in the district of Cheras, there are many RT centres which are operated within its respective Taman like RT Taman Cheras, RT Taman Midah and RT Taman Segar, among many others.
You can now register online to be a member of the RT of your area. In order to do this, you will first need to have a home address of the specific area. If your address is Taman Midah, you will be eligible to join the RT of Taman Midah where if you apply to the Taman Pertama RT, your application will be rejected.
Register with an account and you can submit your personal details accordingly. Once you have done that, your application will be directed to the Central Committee of the particular RT who will then process and approve your application. You will need to choose which division of the RT you are joining. By default, you will be joining the common RT centre as a member while you can choose between Jiran Wanita, Warga Emas and Jiran Muda which are catered for women, senior citizens and the youth groups respectively.
For those who want to apply for a RT in your area, You can submit your applications manually or online through www.jpnin.gov.my, the official portal for the Jabatan Perpaduan Negara dan Integrasi Nasional. You need to download the application form ‘Borang Permohonan Penubuhan Kawasan Rukun Tetangga’ and then submit and you will be given a statement.
After that, the authorities will process your application and you will be contacted for the next course of action.
