What are the common fouls and violations in basketball
In the game of basketball, one must be aware of the common violations and fouls. Each time a foul is called, the game time is stopped and then continues when the game is in play again. A free throw is awarded to the opposing team for a foul committed.
In most cases, the standard actions like hitting, pushing, slapping and holding a player is considered a foul. It is also wrong to stick out a limb with a defender when you try to block his path. That is called illegal pick. If the player is fouled while he is attempting to shoot into the loop, then 2 free throws will be awarded. If the ball entered when he was fouled, then one free throw is awarded.
If he is throwing the ball from the 3 point line before he was fouled, then he is awarded 3 free throws. If the ball entered when he was fouled, which means he got 3 points, then 1 free throw is awarded.
Another common fouls is blocking when the person poses an illegal physical contact toward the opponent en route to scoring. Travelling or walking is when the player holding the ball takes more than one and a half step without bouncing the ball.
