The Malaysian education system mirrors that of the British system although it has changed considerably much since independence. The minimum requirements for education in Malaysia are to go through 6 years of primary education and 5 years of secondary education before heading to the tertiary levels. Malaysian children are given free education in these levels. However, you can choose to send your children to private schools or home-tuition if you like. Apart from that, you can also choose to send them to schools with other education systems like the British syllabus. The public school examinations are the requirement to help your children gain entry into the public universities.
